BACKGROUND An influential woman and her doctor husband formed a cult that pretty much ruled the state of [REDACTED]. Among other institutions, hospitals conspired with them to steal babies and forge adoption documents for the group known as 'The Family'. Almost immediately upon arrival, the babies were subject to operations where their skulls would be cracked open, ancient symbols carved onto bone before putting them back together. (Needless to say not all of them survived.) The purpose of these ancient symbols was to give them powers: one specialized, but not necessarily unique, as more than one could have it; enhanced strength, and telepathy (exclusively between them). In total there were 28 survivors, girls and boys, who 'mother' always made sure had dark hair. They were made to act obediently and feel miserable, only to put a happy front and make good publicity for The Family. Decades later there was a raid and the kids were rescued, corrupt officials charged, and many others arrested. While the cult leaders are still on trial, no one actually knows what was done to the children when they were still inside, most of which are now adults.
